Additional Course Description (Detailed)

What is Audio Video Production I?
Audio Video Production is an introduction and overview of the visual and audio media world. Students learn the fundamentals of video and audio production using professional equipment. How do cameras capture light and record images as analog or digital information? How does sound engineering work, and what are the different elements that turn sound waves into electronic information and back again? How does an editing system function, and how can you use one to make your audience think and feel and experience exactly what you’re trying to accomplish with your production? Students gain knowledge and experience in all of these areas and many more, with extensive hands-on assignments involving video cameras, video and audio editing, directing, video graphics, writing, producing studio and location productions, pre-production, production and post-production.

Audio Video Production gives students more than just experience in the various types of single camera film-style production, multi-camera live switched field and studio production; students also learn about the related careers and the appropriate post-High School programs (colleges/universities, career and technology programs, and art schools) where they can pursue their specific interest and creative passion. This class is great for those students who are interested in careers related to video, audio and film production.

Audio Video Production breaks down movie “magic” and teaches students the science, craftsmanship, and art that makes it all happen. If this sounds like something you're interested in… This is the class for you!

What is Audio Video Production II?
Advanced Audio Video Production is designed and structured to work as an open and largely self-directed lab course that allows students to expand and deepen the skills they learned in Audio Video Production I.  After learning the basic foundations in Audio Video Production I, students who advance to Advanced Audio Video Production are able to concentrate on the areas of their greatest interest, such as videography, video/film editing, audio recording, audio mixing, sound reinforcement, sound design, visual design, dialog editing, lighting, video engineering, script writing, directing, producing, still or animated computer graphics, special effects, voice talent, on-camera talent, and camera operation. Instructors work with students to create and develop individual learning plans focused on each student’s individual artistic or technical passions and interests. Each student identifies personal academic goals for the semester, and specific projects, assignments, and courses of study are developed to achieve those academic goals.

Examples of projects from previous semesters include:
A full production of Memorial High Schools Senior Prom showing all facets of this elaborate night including the automobile and grand entrance stop, the red carpet runway, student interviews and inside the prom footage of the royal court and more.  Students also produce a multi-camera production of the districts State of Education Luncheon.  Other projects include but are not limited to creating PSA to be awareness to current issues, preparing scripts and creating multi camera productions for Teacher and Rookie of Year,  creating commercials to be shown at sporting events as well as capturing productions put on by our award winning Theater Art and Music departments.
