Automotive Technology
Instructor: Mr. Danny Fonteno
ASE Certified Master Technician
I have been active in the Automotive Industry for forty four years. I have worked at Bullington Oldsmobile, Mike Smith Oldsmobile, Kinsel on the curve, and Orange Autoplex. I operated Fonteno Automotive & Transmission Repair for thirty years. During this time I have trained numerous entry level technicians beginning their careers in the Automotive Industry. Being self employed allowed me to develop skill sets that I would not have acquired otherwise.
Operating an independent Automotive repair shop requires one to seek out and attend training on a regular basis.
Some of my areas of expertise are On-board computer Diagnostics, Automatic Transmission Repair, Engine Repair, Suspension Repair, Front-end alignment and Four wheel alignment, Electrical Diagnostics, Rear differential and Final Drive systems, and Air conditioning and Heating.
The Automotive Industry, Heavy equipment, Big Truck, Service Advisors and parts counter persons use a certification known as "ASE"(Institute for Automotive Service Excellence). There are eight areas for automobile certification. Once a technician has passed all eight exams , he or she is certified as a Master Automobile Technician. If a student acquires the knowledge and skillsets , he or she should not have any difficulty being successful passing the ASE exam in Engine Repair. This program allows the student to gain entry level employment at a dealership or independent repair shop. It also gives the student basic knowledge that should allow he or she to be successful in an Automotive College.
The program starts in the tenth grade as an introduction to Automotive Technology and the Transportation Industry. It continues through the eleventh and twelfth grade years. Over the years I have several students that have developed successful careers in the Automotive Industry.
